Leigh Dunnick
Birthplace: Superior, Wisconsin Resided In: North Olmsted. Ohio Visitation: November 05, 2019 Service: November 06, 2019 Cemetery: Lakewood Park Cemetery

Leigh was born in Superior, Wisconsin. Heat and humidity were not her friends. She loved the cold and frequently ice skated on the ponds on the west side of Minneapolis, Minnesota . She was an excellent pianist, having won multiple state level competitions in her youth. After graduating from Edina High School, she attended DePauw University in Indiana . She joined Kappa Alpha Theta sorority (founded in 1837 at DePauw.) She graduated with a B. A. in Economics and did graduate work at the University of Minnesota. She married in 1968. She had celebrated her 50th anniversary this summer.

She spent her teaching career at Westlake High School. Over about 30 years she taught French, Economics and European History. She served as head of the foreign language department and was selected as teacher of the year.

Her calendar was never empty. As a member of College Club West, she served as treasurer of the Optimist investment club and took a turn as president. Socially, she was also a member of friends with descriptive names such as "ballet ladies”, "travel group," "foreign language”, the “Tuesday bridge group" and "shut-ins who drive " just to name a few. As a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church she visited mending members through the caring connections. She even had time for a little Sunday mahjong or to attend plays at Clague, Beck or downtown.
She was a good friend to all

Leigh had a very positive attitude on life. She excelled as a teacher, mentor, and leader during her tenure in Westlake. I always admired her work ethic and that she challenged students to be at their best. A lot of good memories of a friend and colleague. My deepest sympathy to the Dunnick family on your loss.
